David J. Biss has over 40 years experience in the fields of automotive and highway safety research and development.  His auto safety work began at the Penn State University Transportation and Traffic Safety Center and has proceeded uninterrupted to his present consulting practice at his own firm, AUTOMOTIVE SAFETY ANALYSIS CORPORATION. 

Key accomplishments throughout his career have included positions at: The Cornell Aeronautical Laboratory (CALSPAN) where he conducted research and development into occupant protection/packaging safety as well as crashworthiness advancements;  At the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), of the U.S. Department of Transportation, where as a Staff Physical Scientist, he both managed and conducted advanced cutting-edge research into automotive crash injury reduction technologies;  With AB Volvo in Sweden where he formulated, managed and conducted research, development and design into advanced occupant restraint systems being developed for Volvo production passenger vehicles;  For Volvo of America which included the crash testing of vehicles for the New Car Assessment [NCAP] Program and for airbag development baseline tests; and, As the Engineering Test Director conducting the 35 mph NCAP crash test of the newly released Chrysler LH car for the Center for Auto Safety in Washington, D.C. 

Throughout his career, Mr. Biss has been committed to staying current in the science and technology of crash injury prevention.  This includes the pursuit of research, development, design, testing and analysis projects in automotive safety, while publishing results at every opportunity.  Mr. Biss has been a member of multi-disciplinary teams that have evaluated Warnings/Instructions/Reminders Systems, and has developed alternative designs which provided car occupants with the information they need to know in order to participate in their own protections.
